RISKS - MSc Environmental Hazards and Risks Management

Environmental hazards and risks account for hundreds of thousands of deaths and billions of dollars in damage each year in a context of global warming and rapidly evolving land use change. Our program combines recent research with GIS and remote sensing technologies to train a generation of thinkers capable of anticipating and mitigating a wide range of natural hazards in a multi-disciplinary approach. At the completion of the degree, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of risk management components: planning, mitigation, monitoring, scenario modeling, legislation, and warning systems.

Graduates from the MSc Environmental Hazards and Risks Management will possess a comprehensive understanding of risk management components : planning, mitigation, monitoring, scenario modeling, legislation and warning systems.
Following this degree you will be equipped to work for national and international organisations like environmental, urban planning, consulting and humanitarian organisations.
You can also consider, after getting your Master’s degree,  pursuing in a PhD either at the University of Côte d'Azur or at another university.


Our two-year programme is organised in 4 semesters (30 ECTS credits each) and allows a gradual acquisition of skills with the 1st semester dedicated to ensuring that students coming from a wide of range of scientific disciplines have theoretical and methodological fundamentals to address the risk modules.

  • With more than 820 hours of specialized courses to better meet the growing technical demands of organizations recruiting our young graduates.
  • Semester 2 and 4 will be dedicated to a 3 to 6-month internship experience in France or abroad.


Entry requirements

We’re delighted that you want to join us. We try to make the application process as straightforward as possible.

Here are some basic requirements you should have to be eligible for admission: 

  • A qualification equivalent to a Bachelor degree or equivalent in Geography, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences ...
  • Students whose first language is not English must provide recent proof that their spoken and written English is adequate to be able to benefit from your education (you are exempt if you have completed your bachelor at an institution that teaches entirely in English).
  • Students must present an academic record with at least a “Good” general rating

Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration. It is your responsability to make sure that it is complete and that all required supporting documents below are attached in the appropriate format. 

To apply for our study programme, you will need to log on to our platform named Ecandidat.

Below are the documents you will need to upload in Ecandidat during the application process:

  • English proficiency exam scores (Toefl IBT, Toefl ITP IELTS, TOEIC, FCE,B2 or General GRE)
  • 2 letters of references 
  • Evidence of qualifications (translated transcripts and certificate of your Bachelor's degree)
  • A copy of your passport 
  • A statement of interest 
  • A Curicculum Vitae (CV)
  • A passport-sized photo
  • For European students - 2019 tax notice on your parents' 2018 income - This document will be used to calculate your tuition fees. It will not be taken into account in the selection process.

Our selection process
We are committed to widening access to higher education and admitting good students, who demonstrate the potential to benefit from, and contribute to, the academic experience we offer.This means that no student is admitted on the basis of grades alone.
Our office of admissions give full and equal consideration to every application against our agreed criteria. Applicants who have met our entry requirements are entered into the selection process and may be asked for an interview. The purpose of this pre-admission interview is to select suitable candidates to our MSc. Along with candidates’ online applications, the interview will be a decisive factor in the selection process.
The admissions interview enables the selection committee (made up of director of the MSc and admission manager) to understand the candidate’s reasons for applying and to learn what he or she hopes to gain in terms of their career plans. The interview lasts about 30 to 45 minutes.
We will inform you of our decision on your application within 10 or 15 days following the interview.
As in every French university, the entire admissions process can take between two and three months.
