Center for Doctoral Schools 

The Université Côte d’Azur is the institution of the Côte d'Azur that is accredited to issue the doctoral degree. To this end, it has six Doctoral Schools that cover all major scientific fields and coordinate their actions within the College of Doctoral Studies. 

To welcome and support Ph.D. students, the Université Côte d'Azur has created a Center for Doctoral Schools (MED). The MED integrates the services that provide administrative support to the supervisors of doctoral students and to the College of Doctoral Studies (CED).

Doctoral Schools

The Doctoral Schools are associated with institutions of higher education. They coordinate their actions within the College of Doctoral Studies (CED). Their role is to bring together research teams that support the training and future opportunities for Ph.D. students. 

These structures offer the doctoral candidates exceptional scientific supervision and preparation for professional integration. 

The necessary criteria for the accreditation of Doctoral Schools are the following:

  • research links and the scientific quality of the laboratories,
  • procedures for recruiting doctoral students and the associated funding policies,
  • supervisory potential and training policy,
  • external partnerships
  • incentives for mobility and European and international opportunities.

Université Côte d'Azur is accredited to host six Doctoral Schools

  • ED SFA - (co-accredited with Mines Paris Tech) : SFA
    The spectrum of the Doctoral School for Fundamental and Applied Sciences covers the following degrees: Relativistic Astrophysics, Mathematics, Mechanics, Materials, Materials Science and Engineering, Computational Material Mechanics, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Sciences of Physics the Planet and the Universe, Engineering Sciences. It brings together 18 laboratories.
  • ED STIC (co-accredited with Mines Paris Tech) : STIC
    The Doctoral School of Science and Technology of Information and Communication, under the aegis of the UCA and PSL (Paris Sciences Lettres) COMUE, offers degrees and training for Ph.D. candidates in electronics, computer science, automation, signal and image processing. It brings together 3 joint laboratories of the University, CNRS, Inria and Ecole Mines Paris Tech.
  • ED SVS : SVS
    The Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences covers the following major fields: biology of interactions and ecology, immunology and microbiology, clinical and therapeutic research, molecular and cellular interactions. It brings together all the research teams working in the field of life and health sciences, a total of 82 teams
    The Doctoral School of Law, and Political, Economic and Management Science offers doctoral degrees and doctoral training in legal science, political science, economics and management. This multidisciplinary scope enables us to develop synergies between economists, lawyers, political scientists and managers who have related and complementary fields of research using different methodologies. It is supported by 6 on-site laboratories.
    The Doctoral School of Societies, Humanities, Arts and Literature trains Ph.D. students in the following 22 disciplines: Anthropology; Ethnology; Occitan Studies; Geography; Prehistory; History and Archaeology of Ancient and Medieval Worlds; History and Civilizations of the Modern and Contemporary Worlds; Information and Communication; French Language, Literature, and Civilization; English Language, Literature, and Civilization; Spanish Language, Literature, and Civilization; Italian Language, Literature, and Civilization; German Language, Literature, and Civilization; Ancient Languages and Literature; General and Comparative Literature; Philosophy; Psychology; Education Sciences; Language Sciences; Sociology; Living Arts – Dance; Living Arts – Music ; Living Arts – Theater.
    Doctoral candidates are hosted among 11 research teams with exceptional mentorship potential.
  • ED SMH (co-accredited with Aix-Marseille Université) : SMH
    The Doctoral School of Human Movement Science is supported by laboratories in Nice and Aix-Marseille. It trains doctoral students in the sciences of the human movement, with a particular focus on both high-level sport, and health (frailty, aging, sport and health).

University Documentation Service

The University Documentation Service (SCD) of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis works on behalf of the UCA and assists and informs doctoral students regarding all questions related to the publication of their research results. This includes making them aware of the risk of plagiarism, the legal deposit of the thesis, the editorial process for a journal article, and the management of author rights.

It is at your disposal for:

  • Thesis submission,
  • Assistance with publications,
  •  Prevention of plagiarism,
  •  Data management.

What are the prerequisites to do a Ph.D.?

Your application for Ph.D. studies is based on four essential points.  

You must:

  1. Have a French master's degree or its equivalent (obtained during training preparing one for research).  If you do not have a French master's, you must submit a waiver request to the Doctoral School you wish to join.
  2. Have secured the agreement of a thesis advisor authorized to supervise research (i.e. habilitated with HDR title) and found a host laboratory/institute. 
  3. Have defined a doctoral research project (thesis topic).  Note that most institutes and Doctoral Schools post a (non-exhaustive) list on their website of thesis topics offered.
  4. Depending on the Doctoral School, have obtained funding for the duration of doctoral studies.

How to enroll?

First registration 

Before being able to enroll, it is necessary to submit a doctoral application file to the relevant Doctoral School.

When you have obtained your admission from the Doctoral School for the first year of doctoral studies, you must register administraptively with Registrar

In case of difficulty, contact the Center for Doctoral Studies.

Enrollment for the 2nd or 3rd year 

The re-enrollment for the second or third year is much simpler to accomplish. You must have obtained the authorization of your thesis supervisor. This authorization is sent to the Doctoral School of which you are a member, and validated by the College of Doctoral Studies administrator.  

You must then simply perform an administrative re-enrollment.

Extension of the Ph.D. 

Beyond three years of equivalent full-time research, annual extensions can be granted by exception by the president of the higher education institution. These extensions are requested by the doctoral student based on a proposal from the thesis supervisor after receiving an opinion from the Doctoral School administration. 

Such extensions are granted under exceptional circumstances. They occur in particular situations and should under no circumstance substantially change the requirements of the research work laid out in the doctoral education agreement. The same provision applies beyond the sixth year for doctoral students without a funded doctoral contract, who, having to work elsewhere, are considered as being only able to devote themselves part-time to their doctoral research.

If the doctoral student takes maternity/paternity leave, leave for a new birth or adoption, parental leave, or sick leave greater than four consecutive months or has a leave of at least two months as a result of a workplace accident, the period doctoral studies shall be extended by right by the length of the leave if the person concerned makes the request.

The duration of doctoral studies for a disabled doctoral student can be extended by the head of the higher education institution if the doctoral makes a justified request.

How to finance your Ph.D.?

The decree of 25 May 2016, especially Article 11, stipulates that during the doctoral student's annual registration, the director of the doctoral school ensures the smooth progress of the doctoral student’s research project and thesis preparation by verifying the following:

How to choose a thesis topic?

Ideally, a thesis topic develops progressively.  A priori, there is no good or bad thesis topic. However, it is important that the topic should meet at least three conditions:

  • the subject must be part of a realistic and realizable project.  This means that the thesis can be completed within the timeframe of the doctorate.
  • the thesis represents a contribution to the scientific field it is associated with.
  • the subject must be approved by a host laboratory.

Ideally, a thesis topic will be developed progressively, over the weeks or months that precede a request for a doctoral contract or the first registration as a Ph.D. student.

The topic is developed by researching the literature (bibliographies, books) as well as discussing with faculty, especially your future doctoral advisor.

You have several possibilities:

  • Choose a topic among those published on the websites of the Doctoral Schools and submit your application according to the instructions.
  • Consult the websites of laboratories in your field to find out about the topics and financing offered.
  • Propose a thesis topic to a laboratory or Doctoral School (mainly for Arts and Letters, languages, and Human and Social Sciences).  The topic will be developed with the future thesis advisor.

During this stage, the student enters into a period of reading, reflection, and discussion with his or her advisor or other relevant people who can provide additional advice on the project's feasibility and relevance of the proposed approach.  The choice of topic and the development of the research project are not decisions to be made quickly.  They should be as well-informed as possible.

How to arrange an international cotutelle?

The system of international co-supervision of theses was defined by decree on 6 January 2005

An agreement must be established between the two institutions concerned. It could be:

  • A specific agreement for a thesis,
  • A framework agreement specifying the general conditions, with each thesis being the subject of an implementing agreement.  

In both cases, this agreement must be addressed to the relevant Doctoral School, which will process the file.

The student should be duly enrolled at both universities.  Regarding the UCA, the following general rules for registering for doctoral studies apply:

  • If the student is not yet enrolled, he or she must submit an application for admission accompanied by the draft project agreement;
  • Students already enrolled in doctoral studies at the UCA can propose a cotutelle agreement during their first year, or later, at the beginning of their second year.

The principle of the agreement is reciprocity: there is a single thesis defense at one of the two institutions, after which the PhD is conferred both in France and the other country.  The degree can be granted either by a joint diploma or by a doctoral diploma from each of the two countries (manner to be determined in the agreement).

Regardless of where the thesis defense takes place, its conditions must abide by the rules issued in the decree of 7 August 2006 relating to doctoral studies.  However, "since the applicable rules for doctoral studies in the countries involved may be incompatible with each other, French institutions are authorized to deviate from the provisions of the decree prescribed in Article L612-7 of the Education Code regarding these particular aspects, in accordance with the provisions of the present decree and the conditions laid out in the agreement," (Article 4 of the decree of 6 January 2005, modified by the decree of 7 August 2006).

For cotutelles falling within the annual call for proposals from the Université Franco-Italienne (UFI), use the template given by that institution.

In all other cases (for example, for an agreement offered by a partner university), make sure that the text conforms with all the provisions of the decree of 6 January 2005.

NB: The cotutelle agreement does not contain any clauses relating to travel funding, but it could allow for subsidies to be applied for as part of specific calls for proposals

Completing a thesis is a long-term endeavor but it should also be enjoyable! The work provides a lot of satisfaction but it is very demanding. It is imperative that the research makes an original contribution to the chosen field, based on independent research. Moreover, training in scientific integrity has become compulsory for all Ph.D. students.

It requires perseverance, a spirit of initiative, and good organizational skills. It enables students to learn how to conduct literature reviews, to analyze information, to synthesize their knowledge and to communicate the progress of their work and their results, both orally and in writing.

The research methodology depends on the field, the supervisor, and the team to which the doctoral student belongs.

Today’s graduates need to acquire cross-disciplinary knowledge that will allow them to be even more valuable to employers, whether public or private.

The doctoral candidate must acquire expertise in a specialized field of research, but also prepare to find a job after the Ph.D. in public research, private research or any other field.

Training for professional integration is part of the doctoral student's academic career in order to guarantee better professional opportunities. This training is also intended to allow the doctoral student extend their professional horizons beyond their field of specialty.

The education and skills management service coordinates the implementation of training activities for doctoral students divided into 6 major themes: Language; Communication; Management; Professional Effectiveness: Teaching and Research; Health and Safety.

Each doctoral student enrolled at the Université Côte d'Azur must have completed "professional" training hours in order to be allowed to defend his or her thesis.

This training is MANDATORY(it is a prerequisite for the defense. In addition, the doctoral candidate and the supervisor must sign a doctoral training agreement during the 1st year of registration.

The training programs are validated by the Doctoral School.

Who is affected?

Doctoral candidates with a complementary 64h teaching mission 

Students must complete a total of 90 hours of training, distributed as follows:

  • 30 h of disciplinary training, speciality-specific and cross-disciplinary
  • 35 to 45 h compulsory training courses (to conducted in the 1st year)
  • 15 to 25h of electives (professional or disciplinary, specialty or cross-disciplinary). 
Doctoral candidates without teaching obligations

Students must complete a total of 90 hours of training, distributed as follows: 

  • 30 h of disciplinary training, speciality-specific and cross-disciplinary
  • 30 h of professional training chosen from the doctoral modules offered in the following fields: communication, health and safety, languages or management.
  • 30 h of electives (professional or disciplinary, specialty or cross-disciplinary).

The organization of these courses is entrusted to the "professional training programs for doctoral students" service within the Education Department of the Human Resources Service of the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, which operates for UCA


How to register

    1. Find the training program(s) that you are interested in the education programs offered in 2017 section and take note of the training code (example: the code COM05 is for the public speaking course)
    2. Connect to the SYGEFOR (SYstème de GEstion des FORmations) platform, and enter your ENT login.
    1. Fill in your personal information when you first connect, and update your data regularly. Do you work in a Mixed Research Unit (UMR)? You must enter the details of your education correspondent. Consult the list of education correspondents by UMR.
    2. Click on "s'inscrire aux stages en cours" (register for the courses in progress) then select all the courses that interest you and complete the process.
    3. At the end of the procedure, you will need to print the form and have it signed by your supervisor.

    Any unreported absence from an placement or training program may result in cancellation of enrollment in all other programs.


    Exemptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis by the Doctoral School (salaried students, CIFRE contracts, international cotutelles, etc.)

    Any doctoral student may, by exception, and only with the approval of the director of his or her Doctoral School, apply for a staff training program that is not usually validated by the College of Doctoral Studies.

    Thesis defense

    Before the defense 

    The authorization to defend a thesis is granted by the head of the institution, after consulting the director of the Doctoral School and at the request of the thesis supervisor. The latter will have previously proposed two external referees (rapporteurs), whose opinion will be decisive.

    1. The Doctoral School, in conjunction with the thesis supervisor, provides a form for appointing rapporteurs. According to the Doctoral Schools, the selection of members of the jury takes place at the same time or after the appointment of the rapporteurs.
    2. To determine the date of the defense it is necessary to take the time required for the rapporteurs to read the document and submit their report into account. After that, a 4-week regulatory delay must be added for administrative formalities. Therefore, it is generally necessary to start the organizational process for the defense 9 weeks before the proposed defense date.
    3. The doctoral student must then provide the administrator of his or her Doctoral School with several supporting documents:
    • Certificates of professional training from outside of UCA or other establishment (to be validated by the person responsible for each training program). The professional training courses taken at the UCA do not require certification (the education department provides them for the Doctoral School)
    • Certificates of scientific training (to be validated by the person responsible for each training program).
    • And the summary of the training programs taken over the course of the thesis.
  1. The doctoral candidate must also submit his or her thesis manuscript to the University Documentation Service (submission instructions for the UCA). The submission of the thesis is mandatory before the defense: the diploma will not be issued if the thesis has not been completed.
  2. The title page of the thesis must respect the model and the style guide of the UCA (model, see the “writing of the thesis and PDF conversion” paragraph, where you will find the mandatory information to be included). The title of the thesis must be that which is declared to the Doctoral School.
  3. Upon receipt of the reports, if they are favorable, the process of authorization to defend is initiated by the institution. The defense documents are then produced and recovered before the defense.

  4. Composition of the jury

    The jury must be composed of at least 4 members (and up to a maximum of 8), at least half of whom are professors or equivalent. Half of the jury must also be composed of leading figures, from outside of the institution and the doctoral school, who are chosen for their scientific or professional expertise or their renown in the relevant field of research.

    The composition of the jury aims to respect parity. The rapporteurs must not have taken an active part in the candidate’s research and are required to keep a critical and objective perspective on the work presented. Thesis supervisors are not members of the jury. They attend the defense but they do not participate in the decision-making process.

    The thesis supervisor(s) take part in the jury. He or she attends the jury meeting and his or her participation remains invaluable for complete understanding of the work that he or she has supervised. The supervisor can, if necessary, clarify the debates leading to the decision. He or she is not to lead the debates and, if present for the deliberation, he or she does not take part in the final decision. The institutional affiliation of the thesis supervisor is therefore considered to be the doctoral college and he or she is included in the ratio of internal or external members.

    The supervisor does not sign the minutes of deliberation, but does sign the defense report. When the defense report refers to the deliberation, it must be stated that this decision was reached by the members of the jury at the exclusion of the thesis supervisor(s).

    The thesis supervisor is included on the list of jury members, and included on the list for the legal deposit of theses.

    It is desirable that the degree certificate include mention of the thesis supervisor, although the 24 March 2015 memorandum on the procedures for the preparation and issue of national diplomas and state diplomas from higher education institutions under the Ministry of National Education, Teaching and Research does not specify this, because it preceded the 25 May 2016 decree.


    Defense and deliberation

    The president of the jury is elected by the members of the jury before the defense. He or she must be a professor, faculty of equivalent rank or have corresponding authority.

    After the defense, 

    • The members of the jury sign the minutes of the defense,
    • They prepare and sign the defense report,
    • The president of the jury completes and signs the opinion of the jury for the reproduction of the thesis.

    At the end of the deliberation (where, by default, invited members are not invited), the president of the jury forwards to the administrator of the Doctoral School:

    • The minutes of the defense
    • The defense report
    • The opinion of the jury for the reproduction of the thesis: indicate the name of the president of the thesis jury (use this document in its original, without modifications). Instructions for completing the document. 

    These completed documents must be returned to the administrator of the Doctoral School promptly after the defense.


    B. Special circumstances


    Thesis subject requiring a closed defense

    The 7 August 2006 decree on doctoral education allows the head of the institution to make an exemption, in exceptional cases, from the public requirement of the thesis defense cases where the subject of the thesis is of a verified confidential nature.

    In order to simplify exemption request, the College of Doctoral Studies, CED, has produced a standard form: application for authorization.  This form must be completed by the thesis supervisor and returned to the CED signed by:

    •  the thesis supervisor,
    •  the doctoral candidate,
    • the director of the Doctoral School. 

    The CED also provides Doctoral Schools with a standard confidentiality agreement which can be used to preserve the confidentiality of the work with the members of the jury, and all other participants (in the case of a closed thesis defense and/or in cases where confidentiality is required by contract with an industrial partner).

    The person(s) concerned is asked to complete this confidentiality document and to submit it to the President of the jury at the time of the defense.


    External defense, outside of the University

    An application for written authorization with supporting documents is to be submitted by the Thesis Director to the President of UCA, by way of the Doctoral School.

    European Doctorate 

    The "European Doctorate" is not defined by a regulatory text, but is the result of an initiative taken in 1992 by the Liaison Committee of the Conference of University Rectors and Presidents of the European Community member countries (later the Confederation of Conferences of the Rectors of the European Union, which merged with the European Association of Universities [EUA] in 2001). It is a "label" awarded by the University, in addition to the Doctorate, when the following 4 conditions are met

    • authorization for defense is granted on the basis of reports prepared by at least two professors belonging to two higher education institutions from two Member States of the European Community, other than that in which the Ph.D. is defended;


    • at least one member of the jury must belong to a higher education establishment in a Member State of the European Community, other than that in which the Ph.D. is defended;
    • a part of the defense must be carried out in a European Community language other than the national language (s) of the country where the Ph.D. is defended; 
    • the Ph.D. must have been conducted, in part, during a stay of at least one trimester in another Member State of the European Community (mandatory supporting documents). 

    The application for a European Doctorate is to be prepared and submitted to the administrator of the Doctoral School together with the proof of stay in the EEC.


    C. Changes to the manuscript

    In the event of a request for modifications by the jury, the doctoral candidate has a period of 3 months to carry out these changes and send them to the thesis service of his or her campus library. See the library link for the submission of the manuscript.

    The submission after defense is permitted.


    For minor corrections

    The corrections are validated upon the University Library’s receipt of the opinion of the jury, specifying minor corrections.

    The verification of the corrections is carried out by the thesis supervisor with respect to the doctoral student. In the case of late submission, the thesis that was filed before defense will be archived and disseminated.


    For major corrections

    The corrections are validated upon the University Library’s receipt of the opinion of the jury, specifying major corrections, and notification from the Doctoral School certifying that the requested corrections have been carried out as overseen by a designated member of the jury.

    The release of the diploma certificate depends on the delivery of the corrected thesis.

    Submission will not be accepted after the defense, if it is not requested by the jury on the form "Opinion of the jury on the archiving and dissemination of the thesis defended"

    2. The compliance of the corrected electronic version form

    Procedure to request a thesis defense based on work experience (VAE):

    In line with the decision of the Board of Academics and Student Life (CEVU) on 9 October 2009, a candidate wishing to defend a thesis by VAE should submit a pre-registration application from the Office of Continuing Education (ASURE) to the director of the relevant Doctoral School. It will be evaluated by the Scientific Council of the College of Doctoral Studies. 

    The candidate should have already chosen someone to help prepare the pre-registration application.  This person could become a future thesis supervisor.

    The Scientific Council of the College of Doctoral Studies convenes an ad hoc meeting to evaluate the request and issue a decision, which will be transmitted to the candidate.

    Evaluation criteria:

    • The candidate should have a supervisor who can validate his or her approach and is willing to advise the candidate until the defense;
    • The candidate should present an application showing an ability both to present a well-defined project, in which the scientific issues and objectives are clearly described, and to independently manage his or her research program;
    • The candidate should have been published;
    • The candidate's application should be at a level meeting the standards of the National Council of Universities (CNU);

    Thesis dissemination and archiving

    As author, the Ph.D. holder owns the copyright rights to his or her thesis.

    The higher education institution disseminates the thesis on the Internet with the agreement of the Ph.D. holder and in accordance with the dissemination agreement. The Ph.D. holder maintains all rights and is responsible for the contents of his or her thesis. In case of the use of items in the thesis subject to copyright and lacking the right to disseminate from the rightsholder(s), the graduate must furnish a reduced version of his or her thesis.

    To precisely define the authorized uses of his or her work disseminated on the Internet, the author is advised to place it under one of the Creative Commons licenses.

    The higher education institution disseminates the thesis on the Internet without any confidentiality clause. The complete thesis version matching that of the thesis defense will be sent to the National Computing Center for Higher Education (CINES) to be archived for posterity in complete confidentiality and without dissemination. 

    Provisional and final diplomas

    • After the transmission to the Doctoral School of the minutes of and the jury's report on the thesis defense as well as the jury's notification to print the thesis, the Registrar prepares a provisional diploma (Attestation de Réussite) which the doctoral student can retrieve at the Registrar's office or have mailed home after a written request.
    • The diploma is prepared in the twelve months following the thesis defense and must be personally retrieved. Contact the UCA Registrar.

    After the defense, the newly-qualified researcher may apply for the authorization to direct research, Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR). It is the highest diploma offered by the French university system.


    What is the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches?

    The HDR recognizes the high scientific level of the candidate, the originality of his/her scientific approach, his/her ability to master a research strategy in a sufficiently broad scientific or technological field and his/her ability to supervise young researchers.

    HDR, by design, is not and should not be considered to be a second doctoral degree at a higher level. It allows the holder to supervise Ph.D. theses. It also allows the candidate to join the cohort of university professors.


    Who can apply?

    To submit an application to register for the HDR, the candidate must hold a sufficient number of publications in his or her discipline and:

    •    a doctoral degree,
    •   or a doctoral degree allowing the practice of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or veterinary medicine and a degree of advanced studies, or a research master's degree,
    • or the justification of a degree, work or experience of a level equivalent to the doctorate.

    What are the conditions for submission of the application?

    The candidate must have obtained a Ph.D. at least 24 months prior to submitting an application for registration to the HDR.

    After obtaining his or her doctorate, the applicant must be the author of a sufficient number of articles in peer-reviewed journals, communications at symposia with selection committees, joint works or research publications. The number and nature of publications expected varies by discipline area. The criteria selected will be comparable to those used by each CNU section to determine qualification to the duties of Professor.


    How to submit the file?

    The candidate submits his or her application for authorization to register for the HDR by e-mail directly to the Research Directorate. The latter registers the request and forwards it to rapporteurs who will examine the application.

    The reports will be sent to the Research Commission, which will issue a favorable opinion or not for the application for authorization of registration.

    Between the time of filing and the opinion of the Research Commission, it may take several weeks. Indeed, the receipt of external opinions may take between a few days and a few months, without it being possible to predict the delay in advance.

    When the candidate obtains the authorization to register for the HDR, he or she contacts the registrar of the associated institution to proceed with the administrative registration. Once registered, the candidate addresses his or her Doctoral School to organize the defense (proposal for the composition of the jury, choice of rapporteurs, etc.)

    The candidate has a year to defend the HDR. Beyond this period, the authorization lapses and the candidate must start the whole procedure again.

    The doctoral candidate can submit his or her thesis in electronic format by email, via ENT, or by appointment with the thesis service of the relevant campus library (BU): 

    • Full version including the appendices, in PDF format for archiving 

    * in a single file 

    * without password or other protection 

    * Version 1.4 or higher and validated via [In the case of an invalid file, use the « Correction pdf » service to fix the document]

    • Compressed version for dissemination, in PDF format, if applicable

    * in the case of documents that are subject to copyright, but lacking permission to disseminate, replace the documents with their bibliographic reference and the words "Unauthorized dissemination".

    The doctoral candidate must complete, sing and submit the originals of the following documents by post or by depositing directly at the library.

    Since July 1, 2016, all publications from Université Côte d’Azur laboratories, research teams, and other structures must comply with the common “signature” or author affiliation policy of the members of the Université Côte d’Azur. 
    The use of a common signature is imperative. It will help ensure the recognition of Université Côte d’Azur by its peers and its presence in international rankings. The Université Côte d’Azur governance will be extremely vigilant concerning the use of the common signature, and will implement all necessary means to ensure that it is correctly applied.
