Welcome to the first edition of the STM32MP1 AI Student Contest !
This international competition addresses teams of advanced undergraduates (particularly those in fast-track, dual BS/MS, Master programs), Master and Ph.D. students and aims to stimulate innovative ideas for applications in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Smart sensors and Embedded systems.
This contest is organized with the support of the Academy of Excellence "Networks, Information, and Digital Society" and the Digital Systems for Humans Graduate school of Université Côte d'Azur .

The MPU Board

STM32MP157 microprocessors are based on the flexible architecture of a Dual Arm® Cortex®-A7 core running at 650 MHz and Cortex®-M4 at 209 MHz combined with a dedicated 3D graphics processing unit (GPU) and MIPI-DSI display interface and a CAN FD interface.


The STM32MP157A-DK1 Discovery kits leverage the capabilities of STM32MP1 Series microprocessors to allow users easily develop applications using STM32 MPU OpenSTLinux Distribution software for the main processor and STM32CubeMP1 software for the co-processor.

They include an ST-LINK embedded debug tool, LEDs, push-buttons, one Ethernet 1-Gbps connector, one USB Type-CTM OTG connector, four USB Type-A Host connectors, one HDMI® transceiver, one stereo headset jack with analog microphone, and one microSDTM connector.
To expand the functionality of the STM32MP157A-DK1 and STM32MP157C-DK2 Discovery kits, two GPIO expansion connectors are also available for ARDUINO® and Raspberry Pi® shields.
Additionally, the STM32MP157C-DK2 Discovery kit features an LCD display with a touch panel, and Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Low Energy capability.

  1. All developments (software and hardware) must be open and available to the community.
  2. Participating teams will include a maximum of five members
  3. Each team must register before the 24th of December 2019 and provide detailed information about the project and team capabilities
  4. A jury will select the 10 most convincing team on the 10th of January.
  5. One STM32MP157A-DK1 kit will be provided for each registered project. Depending on the project needs, additional boards or sensors may be provided.
  6. ST will support the installation, debug and optimization during the development of the project.
  7. Please notice that distribution is limited to 20 boards
  8. Contestant must reside in France and must be able to collect the boards at LEAT administration office after registration.
  9. Participants will showcase their projects as part of a special AI event on June 2020.

The jury is composed of 2 industrials and 2 academics and will select the 3 most innovative and creative applications.

  • December, 6 (Valrose Campus, Nice, Valrose Fablab) and December, 13 ( SophiaTech Campus, Sophia-Antipolis, Forum Building, room 101), 12h00: Come to see the kit AI demonstration and discuss with organizers about the new capabilities of STM MPU
  • December, 24: Deadline for 1 page project submission. Please use provided template
  • January, 10: Project selection Results
